I am using XP pro so there might be a difference: I never used home edition so I don't know.
Here's my DirectX diagnostic tool screenshot:

That is what mine also looks like exactly? However it does not have System Manufacturer, or System Model Listed?

Looks like 4XAGP

http://www.one2surf.co.uk/enduser/pr...cification.asp

Does this mean you have a Micro ATX board (ie a small computer) there are only 3 expantion slots all together.

I believe the VT8363 is but the chipset.
Since it was introduced post July 2000, you should have AGP 4X.
You should also have SD RAM.

Not smarter just more time on my hands.
Did you buy a prebuilt ie a Hewlit Packard? That would help finding out what you can do.

Ice Heart:
Most today's video cards are AGP X4/8. Having 8 is, no doubt, better, but X4 will do.
When you buy a video card, avoid cards ending with LE, MX, SE as they are budget versions of the card. If you want to buy something inexpensive, it's always better to buy a Ti/XT/Pro/GT card of a previous generation. I tell you: my GeForce FX 5200 is only slightly better than my GeForce 2 GTS.
I'd reccomend looking for some a GeForce 4 Ti or maybe a Radeon 9550 XT.
Just make sure they support AGP X4.
Also, I would reccomend buying video cards from the following companies: BFG, eVGA, ATI, Asus, Gigabyte.

Your motherboard likely has an AGP4x slot as stated by DATD. The chipset your wrote about is your southbridge VT8363, your Northbridge chip is likely KT133. For information about your guys products it's usually best to go to the source. VIA Technologies ... here is the direct link to your chipset

Hopefully this helps some of the other technicians, still doesn't say your MoBo but knowing your chipset gives you a clear understanding of the actual video adapter it can handle. If you have an AGP slot ... its a AGP 4X and you would have to buy a card that fits the specs.

why not just ask for help? you can get a card that will work for around $50, maybe even less, and if your mom's dad built it he should be able to get you set up in no time. he'll have a very good idea of what your system is if it's not convenient to have him do it, call and have him walk you through it.

Yeah, but I agree with jayan. He could ASK his dad for help. he would/should know what to do. He Knows what to look for in graphic cards I am sure and he could tell his dad what he needs, and his dad could find something that will workd that isnt too expensive. I still would like to know if my graphic card will be ok with all this information I have jsut read. I now have a Verto GeForce FX 5500 Video Card, 8x AGP, 128MB DDR

Nova- I just purchased a nVidia FX 5200 128mb and I dont have a problem looking at the welcome screen!! I have been toying with WoW waiting for the March BWE and I have had no problems and most settings are on high! Now, I know GW is WAAAYYYY better, but it works on WoW (which requires DirectX 9.0c) so it has to compare to some degree.

I wouldnt worry about it.... theres a fix posted, You dont HAVE to run the game full boar on all high settings, if thats what you wanted to do, you defintely didnt get the right card. I assume you know this...

He's not my dad by the way, he is my mom's dad. I doubt he can help with the video card problem. He knows alot about computers yes, but he knows nothing of the new video games we play in todays society, or what you need for them!
